The moment is finally here-- wedding dress shopping! You have dreamt of this your whole life, and now it is a reality. EEK! We are so pumped for you. Though this moment is super exciting, you may think to yourself--- "wait, what do I need to do to prep for this?!" Been there, felt that. Luckily, we are here to inform you on all the "Do's" and "Don'ts" when prepping for your bridal appointment.

DO

Bring all ideas + inspiration! We love to get a grasp on what you envision for your big day. Whether that be colors, decor, style of dress, or even just your venue. Show us everything!

DON'T

Fixate too much on a certain style or dress. Be open to trying on other options! Bridal gowns can fit so much different than they photograph. Who knows, you may end up loving a dress you never would have imagined for yourself!

DO

Come feeling your best. We don't encourage a full face of makeup (white dresses + makeup don't mix!) However, we do recommend coming feeling prepped + gorgeous for your appointment! As close as you can get to the real day is a plus, whether that be hair up or down, tan vs no tan, nails done, etc. This is not necessary, by any means, but consider it an excuse to spoil yourself. (;

DON'T

Intensely diet for your appointment. You are beautiful as you are and we know we will find the perfect dress for you + your body! The dress is meant to fit you, not you to fit the dress. We encourage eating as you would leading up to the wedding, so all measurements are accurate and you feel most like yourself!

DO

Bring your fav girl gang! Having your support system along for this experience is priceless. We recommend making a whole day out of it! Champagne is always encouraged, and we will always have all the dinner recommendations when needed!

DON'T

Bring members that you know will be very opinionated and/or pessimistic. We know this is such a special time for you + everyone wants to be involved + have an opinion. However, we are strong advocates of setting boundaries. Instead, plan to do a private showing with those friends or family members once you have said yes to the dress. We promise you won't regret it!

DO

Set a realistic budget before coming in. Knowing how much you are willing to spend + knowing in advance what the dresses typically cost is a way to not be blindsided or overwhelmed. Having a down payment ready to go just in case (fingers crossed) you find your dream dress is always a plus, as it helps split up your payments into more manageable amounts.

DON'T

Come in planning to spend $100-$200. Unless you are shopping on Amazon or at a consignment store, this amount is very unattainable for most bridal stores. We love a good deal as much as anyone else, but in bridal we truly stand by the statement, "you get what you pay for".

DO

Have fun + enjoy the process! This is a super exciting time in your life, and we want to make it just that. When you walk in our doors, there is no stress, pressure, or rush. This is why we are open "by appointment only". For your appointment, our store is your store. You have our undivided attention, and can truly make your time at The Dress your own.

DON'T

Overthink it! There is no reason to rush in making your decision. Typically, if you leave and can't get your mind off a certain dress, your gut is telling you something. Trust the process and yourself when it comes to finding your special dress!

We hope this was helpful in planning your first big appointment! & of course, if you have any concerns, questions, or thoughts, you can always reach out to us prior to your appointment. We are always just a phone call or email away!

xoxo,

Morgan

It's no secret that Decorah is a hidden gem here in Northeast, Iowa! However, many couples don't think of it as a romantic getaway for two. We strongly disagree! Your next "honeymoon" could be a lot closer than you think. Check out our top spots for the *perfect* staycation here in Northeast Iowa, and thank us later! (;

Best Dinner Spots:

Love outdoor hangs, wood fire pizza, organic + local ingredients, + beautiful views? Well we have just the place for you! Luna Valley Farm is a certified organic farm with scenic views of cattle, sheep, pigs, and gorgeous sunsets. With some of the best pizza + on tap beer, this spot is definitely not one to miss. Bring a blanket, board games, or just you + your significant other for a truly romantic dinner date.

Hello fine dining! Twin Springs Supper Club is nestled in the scenic hills of Decorah, with stunning views and mouth watering food. Their menu has all kinds of locally sourced options such as steaks, chops, and seafood. Not to mention, they make one mean cocktail with a menu full of speciality drinks. You may want to pack your best dress for this one, this restaurant is sure to be a fancier date night than usual!

Craving sushi, but don't want to travel far? We have you covered! Koreana is a Japanese style restaurant located in the heart of downtown Decorah. Enjoy a dinner full of authentic asian cuisine, good cocktails, + super friendly service! Not to mention, you can explore all that the downtown has to offer after dinner, or take a walk by the river at sunset!

Best Places To Stay:

This hidden gem is straight out of a Nicholas Sparks novel! The Scandinavian Cottage located right outside Decorah is truly the best way to reconnect with not only each other, but also nature! Located on acres of hiking trails through winding pine forests, fresh water springs, and beautiful gardens, this little cottage is hard to beat. Not to mention, there is a private porch-- perfect for wine + good conversations, a hidden garden claw foot tub to take a cold plunge in, friendly animals, apple trees to pick from, and a relaxing hot tub with gorgeous sunset views.

Love camping, but don't want to deal with bugs, no showers, and sleeping on the ground? Well, we have just the place for you! Not only does Luna Valley Farm have pizza, but they also have gorgeous "glamping" tents! These tents are luxuriously comfortable, and make for the perfect "honeymooners" getaway. The owners of this gorgeous farm said it better than we ever could;

"Pitched on an oak savanna valley side, our platform tents are furnished with rough sawn hardwood floors, a king bed with luxurious linens and places for you to sit and read or write or simply relax. Each tent includes a private patio where you can listen to the birds sing and watch the sheep graze. Our tents are 12x14 and are furnished with a king sized bed, night stands, dresser and bedside lamps. Both ends of the tent can be tied open to allow beautiful summer breezes to pass through. On the back side of the tent you have a 12x13’ private patio with two adirondack chairs and a table where you can watch the birds or read a good book." - Maren Beard (owner)

Take a walk back in time at the historical Leytze's Corner Bed & Breakfast. Built in 1892, this B&B was originally a church. In 1922, it was converted to an English Tudor Home. The first floor has been miraculously preserved in its original state, while the rest of the home is furnished with 1920's antiques and furniture. This stay is also conveniently a very short walk to downtown Decorah, where you can grab a bite to eat, do some shopping, or just enjoy the stunning views!

Things To Do (For Two):

Bring your bikes or hiking shoes for this one! The Decorah fish hatchery is a must visit for you + your boo. Not only do you get to see the fish there + enjoy beautiful views, but it's also a great start to your trek on trout run trail. The 11-mile loop winds through Decorah, past dikes, farmlands, and stunning limestone bluffs. Don't have a bike, but would love to ride? No worries! Bike rentals can be found at Decorah Bicycles.

Thirsty from your long hike or bike ride? Pulpit Rock is the place to stop! A newer brewery to the Decorah area, Pulpit Rock specializes in unique IPA's, delicious pastry sours, + a rotating tap list that is hard to beat. Not only do they have adventurous flavors of beer, but they also have an open concept tap room to outdoor patio area with an endless line up of live music to listen to!

No doubt one of the most well-know things to do in the area is spend time on the Upper Iowa River. One of our favorites for couples is a nice kayaking trip to really kick back and relax! Nominated as a national Wild and Scenic River in the 1960's, this river lives up to its reputation. Pack a lunch, bring a book, or just sit back and enjoy the view while kayaking this remarkable route. No kayaks? No problem! There are rentals all over the area, but one of our favs is

Craving something sweet from being outside all day? We feel you! The Sugar Bowl is located right downtown and is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth! With 50-60's inspired decor and antiques, this stop is more than just an ice cream cone, it's an experience.

Packing your bags yet?

We hope you enjoyed reading about all that Decorah has to offer for a honeymooner's weekend away! With sunshine, outstanding food + drinks, breathtaking views, + cozy stays, you will leave this "staycation" feeling refreshed + rejuvenated!

Thanks for reading! See you next week,

You may have seen us chatting about our sample sale recently and thinking to yourself, "wait... what is a sample sale anyway?" No worries! We are here to give you all the details on this lovely sale and how we are looking to find dresses their "forever bride".

To continue making room + keeping the newest dress options in our store, The Dress by Morgan Lynn offers a few sample sales a year. This "sale" consists of finding our beautiful samples forever brides looking for a dress at a great price!

So.. What IS a sample dress?

A sample dress consists of the dresses we keep in store for brides to try on when finding their dream dress. We cycle dresses out based on length of time they have been with us!

What sizes are these dresses typically?

Sample dresses are cut for brides who are 5"9, and range from sizes 6-22. Compared to ready-to-wear clothing, bridal dresses do typically run small. Don't know your bridal size? No worries! This is not necessary when shopping our sample sale. During your appointment, you will be free to try on any dress, and of course, alterations are always an option if you want to purchase your dream dress off the rack!

How "on sale" are we talking?

It truly depends on the dress! Some of these sample dresses have been tried on very minimally, some more than others, and some not at all. That being said, we offer up to $500 off the sample dresses, the amount dependent off on the dress. On top of this amazing sale, we also have 15% off all earrings, veils, and hair pieces to complete your look!

Do I have to shop just the sample

sale in my appointment?

Absolutely not! The store is yours to shop and see what you like. If it happens to be a sample sale gown, YAY! If not, still YAY! If you find a sample gown that is way too small or big, don't sweat it! We can absolutely order you it in your size.

What Does A Sample Sale

Appointment Look Like?

A sample sale appointment looks no different than any other appointment with me! You have 90 minutes of my undivided attention, with the store all to yourself and whatever guests you would like to bring. This is your day to find your special dress, and we will do everything we can to make it just that!

Do I Get To Take The Sample

Dress Purchased Home?

Absolutely! If you find a sample dress that you love, it is yours to keep. We do not hold sample sale dresses, so be ready to take your beautiful one-of-a-kind dress home with you!

Sounds pretty great, right? We agree! Luckily, we still have a few slots available for our sample sale that is happening July 16th-23rd, so don't forget to book your appointment today! We can't wait to work with you and find your dream dress, for a great deal.

xoxo,

Morgan
